Philip will be accepting new instructions from October 2025.
As an obstetrician and gynaecologist, Philip has been involved in medico-legal work for most of his career as well as holding several national roles assessing evidence and standards of care. This has involved advising on condition and progress reports for his own Health Board.
In 2016 he attended Bond Solon Witness Familiarisation Training for the High Court (Civil) and Expert Witness Training in Courtroom Skills at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
In 2018 he attended Inspire Medilaw ‘s Expert Witness Training two day course, accredited by the Royal Society of Medicine.
As past Chair of BMA Welsh Council, then Chair of BMA UK Council from 2022-2025, he has given evidence on multiple occasions to parliamentary committees in Wales and England and provided witness statements for several of the UK COVID Inquiry modules, giving oral evidence to the Inquiry on three occasions.
He has been engaged as an Expert Witness, providing written reports for both claimants and defendants leading to a roughly 70:30 split, across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. He did not take on any new cases during his role as BMA Chair of Council due to potential conflicts of interest, but having left that position in June 2025 he is looking forward to resuming his medico-legal work from October.
